I’ve been a tea drinker for as long as I can remember. I love a good cup of coffee in the afternoon, but I start every day with a milky cup of hot tea. Next to my morning snuggle with my son, it’s my favourite part of the day.
I haven’t always paid attention to my tea’s ‘story’, but I’ve been more conscious than ever lately about my food decisions and how the foods we eat get from the farm to my table. I decided that it was time to include my morning tea in this bucket!
I was recently introduced to Level Ground Teas, and have fallen in love! They carry a variety of loose leaf teas that are all Fair Trade and organically farmed, hand-picked and prepared by local farmers in small gardens. I’ve tasted my way through a number of the varieties, but have always had a soft spot for Earl Grey tea.
Now that summer is here, I find that some days I just want something cool in the morning. It gets so hot here in Kelowna very early in the day (no complaints, I love it)! I decided to experiment with one of my favourite special tea drinks, the London Fog, to see if I could create a healthy go-to smoothie that married the best of both worlds. I used dates as a sweetener to add some nutrition and fibre, and a rich vanilla Greek yogurt for extra protein. I’ve made it with and without the protein powder, both are terrific!
- 1 c. strongly brewed Level Ground Earl Grey Tea, cooled & frozen into ice cubes
- 1/2 c. 2% vanilla Greek Yogurt
- 1/2 c. milk (almond or regular milk)
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla
- 4 pitted dates
- 1 scoop vanilla protein powder (optional)
Blend until smooth and serve!
