Homemade BBQ Sauce

Homemade barbecue sauce for Father's Day.

Father’s Day is just around the corner and this homemade BBQ sauce makes the perfect DIY gift that is so simple the kids can make it!

I think it’s safe to say that men tend to LOVE barbecuing … at least that’s the case in my family!  There’s a certain sense of pride and ownership that men seem to have over their barbecue, and as much as I love barbecuing, it makes me happy to see Charles in his element – so I leave it to him.

I was searching for an idea for a craft that was food related that Max and Charlie could create, and a homemade barbecue sauce seemed like the perfect fit!  The recipe below is so simple that the kids can make it (no cooking required) and makes 1.5 cups per batch – it is easy to double or triple if you have more than one gift to give!

Tie a little ribbon around the jar with a hand written note and a basting brush (I found mine at Superstore but many dollar stores carry them) and you have the cutest little homemade gift!

This sauce is a winner.  It’s perfectly sweet (you can use honey or brown sugar, your choice), a little smoky and very versatile: it will go with anything!  And hey, you know the way to a man’s heart…

I hope you all have the most wonderful Father’s Day!  I know I will be celebrating Charles and my sweet amazing dad – I’m the luckiest gal to have such great men in my life that are such solid role models for Max and Charlie.
