Asian Sesame Hoisin Chicken or Tofu

Sesame Hoisin Chicken and Tofu

There is an emerging trend in nutrition called ‘flexitarianism’ that I must say, I’m rather drawn to. I’m a big supporter of a vegetarian diet for the obvious reasons that it is great for our personal health and the environment. However, many people shy away from the idea of forever abandoning that steak or grilled chicken. The concept of ‘flexitarian’ is devoted to moderation and eating less meat, not necessarily cutting it completely out of your diet.

The impact on your health and the environment can’t be ignored, and even this small step towards reducing our intake of animal products can make a big impact. So why not try to cut your meat and poultry portions in half, and make one day a week ‘meatless’ (i.e.: meatless Monday) with a recipe like this Asian Sesame Hoisin Chicken or Tofu?

This marinade for tofu or chicken is a good way to ease non-tofu fans into new territory and has become a quick favourite in our house served with a heaping bowl of stir-fried vegetables.  It is best if left to marinade many hours before or overnight. Each batch will cover a pack of firm (cut up) tofu or approximately 6-8 chicken thighs.

Marinade:

Directions:

  1. Place all ingredients in a large sealable plastic bag.
  2. Add your chicken or tofu, and let sit in the refrigerator at least 3 hours or overnight.
  3. Grill until done and enjoy!
